Longwoods Heritage Weekend May 4-5
Experience history being brought back to life as the Upper Thames Military Re-enactment Society ‘Royal Scots’ present the 29th Annual Longwoods Heritage Days on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, 2019. Step back in time to 1814 as British troops attack American invaders. Hear the crack of the musket and the roar of the cannon. Come and experience life in the early 19th century. See the colourful clothing, and smell the food prepared over open fires. Let us entertain your family for the day. General Admisson $10.00, Elementary School Students FREE! (12 and under) Members of the military and cadets in uniform receive free admission.

10:45 Mistress Mason’s Nature Tour (Outside Resource Centre) Take a walk through the forest as you experience the native plants and their uses. Learn about the Cunning/medicine women of 200 years ago. Depending on what’s growing you may even get a snack!
11:00 Battalion Drill (Battlefield) British Forces perform their daily drill in preparation for the Battle of The Longwoods
11:30 Camp Tour and Musket Demonstration (British Encampment) British Soldiers take you on a tour of their camp followed by a musket demonstration. Learn about camp life during the War of 1812 as a soldier and a civilian. Feel free to ask questions…We love to talk about our passion…History!
12:00 Native War Council (Ska-Nah-Doht Village) Witness negotiations with the Native War Council by British Commanders to see who they will support in the upcoming battle.
1:00 Drums Crown Forces Presents “Musical Warriors” (British Camp) Our very own Fife and Drum Corps entertains with a selection of period music.
1:30 The Duel (Birch Grove) Two gentlemen settle a matter of honour by facing off in a duel.
2:00 Artillery Demonstration (Battlefield) Hear the thundering boom as our Artillery Units show off their powerful cannons which often assisted to take the day in battle.
2:30 Battle of The Longwoods (Battlefield) British, Native and American Forces re-enact the “Battle of The Longwoods”.
2:30 Mini Militia (Battlefield) Following the battle, for the youngsters who want to be soldiers, you will be trained in the drill and discipline required of soldier in 1812.

The Longwoods Heritage Weekend will be held at Longwoods Road Conservation Area, 8348 Longwoods Road (Middlesex Road 2) southwest of Mount Brydges. The event is 6.5 km west of Delaware and 10 km east of Melbourne. Traveling on Hwy. 402 from London or Sarnia, exit at interchange 86 and follow the signs to Longwoods Road Conservation Area / Ska-Nah-Doht Village. From Windsor on Hwy. 401, exit at interchange 157 and travel north to Longwoods Road. Take Longwoods Road east to the Longwoods Road Conservation Area.
