Media Release: Miller Park Gets a New Playground!

MEDIA RELEASE                                                                                     December 3, 2019

MILLER PARK GETS A NEW PLAYGROUND!

West Lorne, ON - A new inclusive playground planned for Miller Park in West Lorne has received a major financial boost thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).  A grant application prepared by the Optimist Club of West Lorne was recently approved, providing $150,000 in funding for the equipment and ground cover for the project.  Fundraising over the past year by the Optimist Club has been successful, and is ongoing to finance the remaining costs of the project.

The project will give families from West Elgin and surrounding communities a place to play and be active.  “We do our best as a club to support the youth in our community,” said West Lorne Optimist Club president Joan Neil.  “The new playground design will be accessible and inclusive, so it will benefit everyone.”

Construction will begin in the spring of 2020, in partnership with The Municipality of West Elgin.  The new playground will be located in Miller Park near other Optimist Club projects including the skateboard park, splash pad, and pavilion.  These projects were also funded by donations from community members, organizations, and OTF grants.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $108 million to 629 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
