Service Disruption - Rodney Recycling Pick Up

4:15 pm Wednesday March 13, 2019

Waste Connections notified the Municipality that one of the recycling trucks has broken down, causing a 4 hour delay in pick up for the scheduled recycling pick up in the village of Rodney.  Due to this delay, some areas of Rodney will have recycling pick up on Thursday March 14, 2019.   Wast Connections and the Municipality are sorry for any inconvenince. 

Garbage Update

Waste Connections had a truck issue on Thursday Febraury 28, 2019 and missed part of the pick up area in West Lorne.  As of 1:30 pm on Friday March 1, 2019 all missed Garbage should have been collected. 

Dog Tag Canvasing

West Elgin’s Animal Control Officer will be canvasing West Elgin with dog tags starting Monday March 4, 2019.   For more information, please contact municipal office at 519-785-0560.

Gas Leak Notice

Febraury 21, 2019 - Contractors severed a Natural Gas Line on Ridout Street  in Rodney, Union Gas officials are on site.  Currently the situation is under control and there is no risk to the public at this time.  The gas should be restored this evening.  For further information, please contact the municipal office at 519-785-0560 or watch the website.

Notice of Building Fees and Charges Public Meeting

Pursuant to Subsection 7(6) of the Building Code Act, R.S.O 1992 as amended

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of West Elgin intends to give principle authority to pass a By-law adopting new and amended fees and charges under Section 7 of the Building Code Act, as amended at the Regular Council meeting on March 14, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at the Municipal Office, 22413 Hoskins Line, Rodney ON.

The following information can be obtained at no cost on the municipal website www.westelgin.net or in person at the Municipal Office located at 22413 Hoskins Line, Rodney:

  1. Estimate of the costs of administering and enforcing the Building Code Act
  2. Current fees and any proposed changes
  3. Rational to any changes or new charges

Note: this shall serve as Public Notice should the adoption of the Building Fees and Charges be deferred to a future meeting.  Questions and comments may be submitted to:

Media Release: West Elgin Fire Chief Announces Retirement

The Municipality of West Elgin’s Fire Chief Jeff Slater is retiring after thirty (30) years of exceptional public service. His last day as West Elgin’s Fire Chief will be April 23, 2019. 

Mr. Slater will continue serving the Community in his role as Recreation Superintendent for the Municipality of West Elgin. Chief Slater is a seasoned veteran of the West Elgin Fire Department, joining the Rodney Fire Department in 1989 rising to the position of Captain, then Rodney Fire Chief. Chief Slater was promoted to the role of West Elgin Fire Chief in 2016 demonstrating longstanding and unwavering commitment to our community.

We thank him for his years of great service to the community, and he rightfully should take pride in his own and his department’s accomplishments over the years.

The Municipality of West Elgin will undertake a recruitment process for the hiring of a new Fire Chief in the near future.
