Elgin County is the approval authority for plans of subdivisions and condominiums. More information about how to apply for a plan of subdivision is available on the County of Elgin's website. There is an application guide and form available there.
Plans of Subdivision creates lots and blocks with the plan.
Plans of Condominium create units and blocks within a plan. There are many forms of condominiums. Vacant Land Plan of Condominium requires public meetings; and other forms of condominium go through an exemption process.
Application fee is $5,5000 to the Municipality of West Elgin (see Fees and Charges By-law). Additional application fees are required to the County of Elgin. There are other financial obligations that will be required throughout the planning process, including a Planning Agreement fee of $1,500 to the Municipality of West Elgin. (PLEASE NOTE: AS OF JULY 1, 2022 WEST ELGIN WILL ALSO BE COLLECTING A REVIEW FEE ON BEHALF OF THE LOWER THAMES VALLEY CONSERVATION AUTHORITY. THIS FEE IS BASED ON THE TYPE OF APPLICATION. PLEASE CONSULT WITH STAFF PRIOR TO SUBMISSION TO DETERMINE THE APPLICABLE AMOUNT.)
Planning Pre-application Consultation is required prior to application(s) submission with the County of Elgin, Municipality of West Elgin and applicable agencies.
