Ordering a Marriage Certificate
A Marriage Certificate is a legal record of your marriage that lists the date, the place and your names that you get after your marriage ceremony. You can only order your Marriage Certificate through Service Ontario.
Changing your name
Visit Service Ontario with your Marriage Certificate to change your name on your identification.
You have three options for changing your name in Ontario:
- Legally changing your name after marriage;
- Legally changing back to your previous name after divorce;
- Assuming your spouse's name after marriage.
Your name does not change on your Ontario Birth Registration when you assume your spouse's name. You can change your name on documents such as your health card, driver's license, and Ontario photo card at no cost.
